Financial Assistance Program

The Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital Financial Assistance Program is a comprehensive program designed to assist patients in meeting their financial obligations created by receiving necessary medical care at our facility. This program only covers non-elective services. Elective services are defined as those services that a patient chooses to undergo for reasons other than illness or injury.

The program serves a variety of functions, including:

  • Fulfilling the hospital’s charitable mission to provide the community it serves with access to health care
  • Creating a justification for the hospital’s 501(c)3 tax-exempt status, which has associated financial benefits
  • Increasing the accuracy of the accounting information generated by the hospital by identifying which portion of the hospital’s receivables is collectible

We understand that healthcare expenses often occur when you least expect them. This can create a financial burden for you and your family. To assist you through the payment process, we offer a variety of payment options that are tailored to your individual lifestyle.

Do I Qualify for Financial Assistance?

The process requires completing a financial assistance application. Eligibility is based on income and assets. The program includes two methods of assistance, including a discount to the patient’s account and/or an interest free extended payment plan. The type and quantity of assistance the patient receives are dependent on their financial need demonstrated through information supplied through the financial assistance application.

Elective services are excluded from the financial assistance program. Ask our financial counselor about payment options for these services.

Financial Counselor

FMDH employs a financial counselor to help patients navigate the hospital’s credit policy and financial assistance program. Our financial counselor is available to help patients determine payment options that fit within family budgets. The goal of the financial counselor is to allow the patient to meet all of their financial obligations, including but not limited to those incurred through seeking care at FMDH. The counselor considers all the patient’s financial obligations, including medical expenses incurred through the parts of the hospital that do not qualify for financial assistance and medical debts owed to other healthcare providers. For more information on the FMDH Financial Assistance Program or to set up an appointment, please call Ruth Winder, FMDH Financial Counselor at (406) 228-3633 or email her at ruth.winder@fmdh.org.
