Labor, Delivery and Recovery

Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital’s Labor, Delivery and Recovery facilities have specially trained professionals to care for you and your new baby. We have multiple providers that are specialized in Obstetrics on staff. The LDR suites at FMDH are all-inclusive so that you can go through labor, deliver your baby, and recover, all in the same room.

Additional Services to Aid in the Pregnancy & Birthing Process?

It’s important to plan early in your pregnancy and be informed about this life-changing experience. Our FMDH team offers childbirth preparation classes to help you. Each free, one-day course begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. FMDH offers these courses every other month on the first Saturday. Please register for this class at least one week in advance. To register, call Labor and Delivery at (406) 228-3522 or fill out the online form here.

During childbirth preparation classes, you will learn:

  • hospital roomAnatomy of the pregnant woman
  • Labor and birth process
  • When to call or come to the hospital
  • Techniques to assist you in coping with the pain of labor including possible pain management options
  • Unexpected emergencies
  • Signs and symptoms of pre-term labor
  • Feeding and caring for your new baby

There will be a tour of the LDR suites and time to address your questions during the class. The team will assist you in developing a birthing plan to discuss with your doctor. Class size is limited to those who register at least one week in advance. Bring your support person and repeat any portion of the class during your pregnancy to review the information. The classes are informative, casual, and fun.

Lactation Consultants

Need a trained and certified person to answer your questions? FMDH has certified Lactation Counselors available to provide clinical breastfeeding counseling and management support to families who are thinking about breastfeeding or who have questions or problems during the course of breastfeeding.

Preregister for a Class

We invite you to preregister to remove the stress of completing paperwork when you arrive at the hospital already in labor. Preregistration sessions are approximately 30 minutes long. This provides you with an opportunity to complete all admission paperwork and get your questions answered prior to being admitted to the hospital in labor. We offer preregistration sessions once per month. You can ask about the schedule for the sessions at any of your OB appointments.
