James Martin, Ph.D.

About James

Predominately lived in Georgia, South Carolina, and Louisiana - father is a retired OB-GYN who practiced for over 40 years and taught me quite a bit about people. After undergraduate I obtained a Master's in Psychology, after which I worked for a couple of years doing neuropsychological testing for the Medical College of Georgia, and on a national collaborative study through the VAMC investigating Clozaril in treatment resistant schizophrenia.

From there I pursued a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology through Louisiana State University, throughout which time I externed 30 hours a week at the state forensic hospital (then known as Feliciana Forensic Facility) and furthered my assessment skills working with pre and post trial inmates.

During my time in graduate school I was able to publish nationally and internationally in the areas of cognition in schizophrenia, and neuropsychological assessments. After completing requirements for licensure I worked briefly as a temporary assistant professor for a local college and graduate school in counseling before moving full time into private practice, where for 15 years I provided psychotherapy, psychological assessments for various agencies (CPS, juvenile court, voc rehab, private lawyers, Social Security, VAMC), and expert witness testimony in a 13 county region.

With the changes in healthcare it became apparent that private practice was becoming too arduous to maintain, so in 2018, I relocated with my wife of five years to Glasgow, MT to provide therapy services for the people of this beautiful region. I have a grown daughter who is now looking to get her PhD in environmental chemistry, along with two grown busy stepchildren and a beautiful 4-y.o. granddaughter - all of whom we are trying to convince to relocate here.
